Discussion Board — General Guidelines

Purpose

The discussion board is a place to show your understanding of the topic, practice scientific communication, and learn from classmates by sharing ideas.


Step 1: Read the Prompt

Carefully read the prompt, case study, video, or reading provided before posting.


Step 2: Create Your Original Post

Your original post must include:

  • 4–6 complete sentences

  • A direct response to the prompt or question

  • At least one vocabulary term from the lesson used correctly

  • Clear explanations written in your own words

  • A connection to real life, another concept, or prior knowledge


Step 3: Reply to a Classmate

After posting, respond to at least one classmate.

Your reply must:

  • Be 2–3 complete sentences

  • Add new thinking (example, clarification, or thoughtful question)

  • Stay respectful and on-topic

  • Avoid short responses like “I agree” or “Good job”


Step 4: Quality Expectations

To earn full credit, your post should:

  • Be thoughtful and complete

  • Use correct scientific language

  • Stay focused on the topic

  • Be respectful and school-appropriate


Helpful Sentence Starters (Optional)

  • “One key idea from this topic is…”

  • “This relates to real life because…”

  • “I agree/disagree with ___ because…”

  • “A question I still have is…”
